The VDA001 Vehicle Direction Alarm is an audible and visual warning device that activates during left turn, right turn, or reversing movements, delivering clear spoken voice alerts to warn pedestrians and nearby workers of vehicle direction changes. It is used on traffic control vehicles, civil fleet, construction plant and heavy vehicles where blind spots and site movement create risk.

When activated, the unit emits a two-beep pre-alert followed by a spoken warning message indicating vehicle movement direction. The unit cycles through messages including “Warning this vehicle is turning left”, “Warning this vehicle is turning right”, and “Warning this vehicle is reversing”, repeating while the function is active. This provides clear directional awareness beyond standard tonal reversing alarms.

Operating on a 10–32V DC system, the unit integrates directly with vehicle indicator and reverse circuits to trigger direction-specific alarms. It also includes a reduced output mode, allowing both audio and LED brightness to be lowered by 50% via a dedicated input, supporting operation in low-noise environments, night works, and urban areas.

The unit is mounted externally using the supplied foam backing pad and fixing screws, allowing secure installation to vehicle panels, trays, or rear body sections. The included 800mm 6-pin breakout cable enables connection to vehicle circuits for left indicator, right indicator, reverse, power and ground, allowing flexible installation across a range of vehicle types.

The compact IP67-rated housing is suited to exposed mounting positions and maintains operation in wet, dusty and high-vibration environments. Its multi-input wiring allows separation of left, right and reverse functions, ensuring clear and distinct warnings depending on vehicle movement.

In real-world deployment, these alarms are fitted to traffic utes, council vehicles, waste trucks and plant equipment to provide directional awareness when turning across footpaths, reversing in confined areas or operating in live traffic environments where pedestrian interaction is present.
